Inquiry

Our inquiry model empowers students to shape their own curriculum, responding to their interests. It ignites curiosity, fosters questioning, and guides students in exploring and discovering more. The culmination of this model encourages students to translate their findings into action, actively sharing what they have learned throughout their learning journey.

Each term we have an overarching inquiry focus. We call this the ‘Waka Way’ - a programme of inquiry that is developed with the local curriculum in mind. Each unit is planned with the students to ensure that it is responsive to their interests.

Social sciences creates a curiosity about and respect for places, people, cultures, and systems. Students learn to contribute, participate, and take positive action as informed, ethical, and empathetic citizens.

Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories weaves through our planning with its focus on stories of interactions across time that connect people to each other and to place. Students will build understandings about how Māori, and all people for whom New Zealand has been and is their home, have shaped Aotearoa New Zealand’s past. This will help them make sense of the present and inform future decisions and actions

*Inquiry Open Afternoons are hosted throughout the year, where parents and whānau are invited to come into school and experience Inquiry learning in action.
